Objective

To recognize and assist outstanding high school Chinese graduates to reduce financial burdens for the 4-year college.

Applicant Qualification?

  • At least 16 years of age at the time of application, lives in Metro Washington DC and Baltimore area Of Chinese Heritage
  • Beginning full-time study at an accredited 4-year college educational institution in the United States in Fall 2024
  • Winners will be obligated to attend the award ceremony, and to display one of their winning pieces when assigned.  And winners must accept their awards in person; failure to do that may cause their award to be forfeited.  The award ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 4 starting at 10:00am at the Culture Center of TECRO, 901 Wind River Lane, Gaithersburg, MD 20878, (301) 869-8585.

Selection Criteria

  • Academic achievement of a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (unweighted)
  • Leadership in extracurricular activities
  • Involvement in community service
  • Financial needs (Adjusted Gross Income on Form 1040 is less than $65,000)
  • Must enroll in an accredited 4-year in-state college as a full-time student for the entire academic year 2023/2024

Rules for Applicants to complete the application (Required Documents):

  • Email Sherry Hwang at heuli168@gmail.com for the application form
  • Complete the application
  • Sign the application form by the applicant and his/her legal guardian• Additional attachment (if necessary) describing extracurricular activities, academic honors, and community service activities (maximum, 2 pages)
  • A biography
  • An essay of 500 words on “The Importance of Pursuing Higher Education?” typed in double-space and signed by the applicant and his/her academic guidance counselor on the upper right hand corner
  • Transcripts from high school capturing the coursework
  • A copy of most recent household tax return signed by taxpayer(s)
  • Two letters of recommendation from those listed as references in the application
  • Information on proposed 4-year college course of study (major)
  • A financial plan depicting all funding resources, such as family fund, college scholarship(s), government aid(s), and/or student loan to complete the 4-year college.
  • Application package must be post marked and sent to

  • or email the entire package to heuli168@gmail.com on or before March 31, 2024
  • Application package will not be returned
  • Scholarship will send to the Financial Office of the college designated by the applicant
  • Award winners will receive notification by April 15, 2024.
